An invincible summer
‘In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer’, wrote Albert Camus in his 1954 poem of the same name.
We often have the feeling that we are inside an interminable winter: in the violent, angry words that are used, in the ancient and endless suffering of entire populations, in the daily struggles that an increasing number of people face, in a society that is becoming poor of everything, of material as well as spiritual goods.
Yet we persist in believing that within each of us there is an invincible summer, a luminous force to cling to so we can transform survival into existence.
Art attempts to keep this light alive and nourish it: art does not change our lives, it does not solve our issues, but it brings us in touch with what inside of us is most alive, deep and fertile.
May your summer be invincible, always.
