“Be SpectACTive!”

Be SpectACTive! is the European project led by CapoTrave/Kilowatt. Started in December 2014, it receives a second four-year public funding from Creative Europen in July 2018. The first edition of the project saw the Municipality of Sansepolcro and the CapoTrave/Kilowatt Association bring to Europe the experience of the “active spectator,” which is the main feature of Kilowatt.
The project, conceived by Luca Ricci and Giuliana Ciancio, sees the participation of 18 partners located in 15 different European countries.

In addition to CapoTrave/Kilowatt, there are: Artemrede (PT), Bakelit Multi Art Center (HU), brut (AT), BUDA (BE), CdAT – Café de las Artes Teatro (ES), Domino (HR), Dublin Theatre Festival (IE), Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival (SE), SKCNS – Institution Student Cultural Centre of Novi Sad (RS), International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra (SK), Plesni Teater Ljubljana (SI), Occitanie en scène (FR), Tanec Praha (CZ), Teatrul National Radu Stanca Sibiu (RO), Fondazione Fitzcarraldo in Turin, the CNRS in Paris (France) and two universities with departments dealing with the economy of culture, such as the University of Barcelona (Spain) and the University of Montpellier (France).

Among the several planned activities there are: the creation of active spectatorship groups-the Visionaries – in nearly twenty European cities (including Sansepolcro), the production of 15 new theater and dance projects, 60 creative residencies, the staging of 222 shows chosen directly by the active spectatorship groups, four international conferences on active spectatorship in Montpellier (2019), Sansepolcro (2020), Novi Sad (2022), Lisbon (September 2022). The whole project is monitored by the scientific research on the qualitative and quantitative effectiveness of active involvement projects of viewers.
