how new female directors and choreographers are defining different priorities for the contemporary scene
A recent study by Associazione Amleta says that, in major Italian theatres (National and Tric), only 35.1%, of directors, playwrights, and actresses are women. If we take a look only at female directors, these are even fewer, only 22.3%. The European average is somewhat higher. Both percentages, Italian and European, are growing, but we are still far from gender parity. Starting from these numerical data, in the meeting we especially interrogate ourselves about the qualitative elements that a greater presence of female writers, performers and directors would bring on the scene: which topics, today, are underrepresented and would benefit from more centrality?
