RISONANZE (EXTRA)ORDINARIE

The EXTRAORDINARY RESONANCES project was created with the aim of spreading and promoting reading as a tool for participation and inclusion, thanks to the “Ad Alta Voce 2023” call for proposals, promoted by the “Center for Books and Reading” of the Ministry of Culture. It was developed in the municipalities of Sansepolcro, Castiglion Fiorentino, and Pieve Santo Stefano, in collaboration with the cultural associations Effetto K and Cautha, the Fondazione Archivio Diaristico Nazionale onlus, the Istituto Istruzione Superiore “G. Giovagnoli” in Sansepolcro, and the Istituto Statale d’Istruzione Superiore in Castiglion Fiorentino.

The program was aimed at two classes from the “G. Giovagnoli” Higher Education Institute in Sansepolcro and three from the State Higher Education Institute in Castiglion Fiorentino, from different fields of study, as well as a group of teachers and librarians working in these areas. It consisted of reading courses as a tool for active citizenship, workshops on reading aloud techniques, and concluded with the production of two musical readings.

During the first phase, participants worked with playwright Lucia Franchi and actor and trainer Simone Faloppa on a selection of diaries written by adolescents and preserved at the Fondazione Archivio Diaristico Nazionale (National Diary Archive Foundation). Their aim was to draw inspiration from these readings that resonated with their daily lives, their age, and their communities. The content and ideas gathered were explored and reworked in a following creative writing workshop. The process involved field research at the municipal libraries of Sansepolcro and Castiglion Fiorentino and the National Diary Archive Foundation, involving both students and teachers. At the same time, two intensive seminars were held for teachers and librarians to strengthen their skills in reading aloud.

The second phase was structured in two cycles of meetings to experiment with some reading aloud techniques, which led to the creation of two musical readings, organized with the associations Effetto K and Cautha, trainer Chiara Ramanzini, musician Lodovico Rossi, and sound designer Giacomo Calli. The two readings were presented as part of the Kilowatt Festival 2024 program, accompanied by moments dedicated to storytelling and sharing the project. One reading was presented live, another as a podcast.

Finally, the last stage of RISONANZE (EXTRA)ORDINARIE was the purchase of 300 volumes for the libraries of Sansepolcro, Castiglion Fiorentino, and the schools involved: the choice of bibliography was the result of dialogue and exchange between trainers, librarians, the Diary Archive, and participants.

In the following diary, we share the various stages of our creative journey.
These are pages of work in progress, fragments of encounters with girls, boys, teachers, and librarians. These are suggestions, exchanges of words, ideas, and thoughts. These are unfinished notes, because they were written during phases of constant listening, openness to doubt, contradictions, and unexpected turns that characterize processes such as this.
