THE HOPE PRINCIPLE
Dreams, fairy tales, movies, shows, set in motion our deepest desires and invite us to transform them into our most inspiring endeavors. This was argued by the German philosopher Ernst Bloch who, between 1953 and 1959, published a book of more than 1,600 pages entitled “The Hope Principle.”
Bloch thought that human beings resort to hope – understood as the ability to overcome the limits imposed by reality – to go beyond what is already there, to desire what is not yet there but can be created.
Hope is not an abstract thing, nor is it the vague expectation of something that will come of itself: it is the impulse to begin concretely building each new project. Without hope there would be no reality.
Kilowatt is the opportunity we create each year to express the desires and visions of a community, which will rediscover itself the more it returns to hope.
“The Hope Principle” is an invitation and a wish for the future: to put imagination in the place of fear.
