ABOUT US
CapoTrave/Kilowatt is an international project of programming, production, education, urban regeneration and hospitality dedicated to the contemporary performing arts (theatre, dance, circus, music, visual arts and multimedia).
It was founded in 2003 by Lucia Franchi and Luca Ricci, who have been running it ever since. The heart of the project is the “Kilowatt Festival“, which has been held every year since 2003 in Sansepolcro (and, in 2022 and 2023, also in Cortona) Tuscany, during the month of July.
Kilowatt is recognised as one of the most significant national and international events in its sector due to the quality of the artistic choices and the innovative format of Visionari: a group of almost 50 people who, after a long period of meetings and discussions, select every year 9 of the over 50 shows presented at the festival.
CapoTrave/Kilowatt manages the Teatro alla Misericordia in Sansepolcro and, with Armunia in Rosignano Marittimo (Li), is one of the two venues of the Centro di Residenza della Toscana, hosting every year about 20 Italian and international companies for their creative residencies.
From 2014 to 2023, together with the Municipality of Sansepolcro in the first call and independently in the second one, it was the project leader of the European project “Be SpectACTive!“.
At the moment it is partner of the European projects: “Digital On Stage”, focusing on the digital performing art, and “Coopera”, implementing the good practices of audience’s engagement.
The association is promoter of the network “L’Italia dei Visionari“, of the project “Residenze Digitali” and of the action “Toscana Terra Accogliente” and is part of several national and international networks: Anticorpi XL with the actions Danza Urbana XL and ResiDance XL, In-Box, NDN, Risonanze, RAT, Solidarity in Motion and CReSCo.
CapoTrave/Kilowatt won two Ubu prizes, the first in 2010 as a special project and the second in 2021 to Lucia Franchi and Luca Ricci as best curatorial project, the Nico Garrone prize in 2013, the I Teatri del Sacro prize in 2015 and the ANCT Critics’ prize in 2021.
