In the Samoan language there is a word, “Fa’afafine”, which defines those who do not like to identify with one gender or the other: a veritable third sex on which society does not impose a choice, and which enjoys consideration and respect. Alex does not live in Samoa, but would also like to be a “Fa’afafine”; this is the story of a day that changes him forever.
Giuliano Scarpinato is an actor, director and playwright. He met the actor Michele Degirolamo and the actress and writer Gioia Salvatori in 2013. “Fa’afafine”, their first work as a group, won the Scenario Infanzia Prize in 2014 and the Infogiovani Prize – at the Lugano International Theatre Festival.
